Day 1. The elaborate entrance of Chad Deity

What an amazing day! Challenging, inspirational and scary!
Today, I started rehearsing for a play at the legendary GEFFEN theatre in Westwood, California. An honor to be asked to appear there and even more of an honor to be asked to work with a caliber of actor that is simply mind blowing.
There is NOTHING more intimidating, yes I said it, INTIMIDATING, than doing a table read of a play with the ORIGINAL cast who have been performing this piece for three years! IN CHICAGO, IN NEW YORK! But I love it, we all need challenges!
Also we spent the day with one of the top fight instructors in the country. It was like a Stage/wrestling combat master class.

Back in the chair

So I'm sitting in the barbers chair getting a cut and ... Gulp... Color! Yes it's true, I have grey hair color put in to make me look older ;) . At Floyds which is full of characters, great for awesome people watching. Yet the place always feels like 'manufactured hipster' if that makes sense? It's cool but they all kinda look the same, same stickers, same tattooed stylists,same music. Not complaining just an observation.





It's a good day today, cut open an egg and check it out...

New blog for a new year!

Hey guys! Well 2009 kinda got away from me there! My new show I'M IN THE BAND ended up taking much, much more time than I expected. But I have to say (and I hope you will see it when it launches Jan 18, worldwide) that it's absolutely the most fun I've ever had shooting anything ever!
That's saying a lot believe me. It's just that I haven't laughed like this, while working, in a long time.





What a poser huh!

It's true what they say, dying is easy.. "Comedy is hard"!
There is nothing worse than setting up and delivering a joke to absolute silence... A lot of trial am error goes into an episode of a sitcom, but then when you get the roar from the audience and you know they're with you it's all worth it!

2009 was an interesting year, I discovered a long lost pic of me performing magic for Michael Jackson back in the early 90's which seemed rather timely given Michael left us last year.





I sold my first drama pilot to TV network USA. Finished writing two others. Created a graphic novel, 'AMONG THE SPIRITS', completed two video games DRAGONAGE and UNCHARTED2. (making, not playing, them haha!)
And two movies WIZARDS OF WAVERLY PLACE the movie, and A CHRISTMAS CAROL.
Plus shot all 20 episodes of season one of I'M IN THE BAND. Phew!
Oh and found time to get engaged in front of a live studio audience.

This year had started off snowy!
I'm in the UK visiting family and it's the worst snowstorms for 150 years!











But it's still fun. Visited the Tate Modern museum. The problem with art museums is theres too much bloody art! Its 'art overload' and eventually like anything you get FULL.
Quite a few times I caught myself scoffing saying to myself "really THATS ART?" but kept reminding myself that art is different things to different people. My favourite 'you got to be kidding' moment was a piece that was basically a mirror hung on a wall. Next to it was a description of how brilliant it was as a piece of art "are we looking at art or is it looking at us" blah blah blah! WAIT...DOH ...art is different things to different people...
Lunch was fun there with unusual cola





It had alcohol content!

Found a lonely Tea bag on the street, this is exactly how I found him





He looked do sad!





Hit the theatre as well, AN INSPECTOR CALLS was brilliant in it's staging and OLIVER was good. In the musical, Nancy starts singing "as long as he needs me" right after the 'he' (Bill Sikes) has punched her out! Bit dated these days with all the awareness of spousal abuse, and in a musical attracting a lot of kids, but then it IS Dickens, that guy gets away with murder! ;)
Anyway loads of fun in London and now on a train to visit Mumsy!





Ziggy had a wonderful Xmas






But was almost eaten by coyotes in the new year, (he's ok don't worry).

Oh here's a pic of a doggie that just sat and stared at us while I was renting a car! So cute!






So it's 2010, no flying cars yet but I would like to wish all of you a fantastic year! Let's kick it in the arse!

Waiting

Sitting at the airport relaxed and feeling fine,
waiting for the plane to take me off to mine,
people watching, it's a crazy mix,
I'm certainly getting my fix,
one more wine and I'll think I can rhyme!

Titan the python

Wow been a while since I blogged! Have to say I'm having a blast on the show I'M IN THE BAND. recently we shot a scene with snakes... Real snakes... And a six foot python named Titan


They squeeze you to death... Titan.. Get it? -- so needless to say I wasnt too happy when they placed him around my neck! But I'll tell you this, we bonded pretty quickly, we're gonna hang again real soon.



He was so cool, you can feel yhe sheer power of six feet an forty pounds of muscle, and its humblong. Titan was an albino, white amd yellow markings and he was a babe, the Brad Pitt of snakes.

Goes to show that preconceived notions are often wrong, now I wonder if its the same with humans.... NAH!

Union schmunion

Why do we have unions? They are here for the members, that's it. To protect, fight for and ensure fair deals and conditions.
So why are so many actors pissed off at their unions? We feel they have let us down. Although our dues pay their wages the employees seem to think it's ok to ignore concerns, not return calls and betray us in gross and illegal manners.
Soon I wil detail my struggle with AFTRA and how it has completely let its membership down, and beleive me, I'm not the only one who feels this way!

Although I have never been an outspoken political type, it's time to speak up.
It ain't all glamour folks!

Well helloooooo

I have been sooo busy launching a new show that their has been zero time to write. Learning guitar, singing lessons and a long sitcom schedule knocked me out these last 3weeks. Now we are hitting our stride I can pull the trusty (?!) iPhone out and blog from the make up chair as my awesome rocker wig is being attatched!





The show is called IM IN THE BAND
It follows the life of teeanger Tripp Campbell as he joins his all time fave 80's Rock band IRON WEASEL as they vie for a comeback. I play lead singer and rock legend in his own mind , DEREK JUPITER.
I have not had this much fun and laughed out loud so much in years! And I'm not just saying that coz I'm in it! The reason I chose to do this show was the scripts were hysterical! The band let's the kid join as long as they can live in his mums guest room! It's Spinal Tap millenium style and it's a blast,
I hope you will all check it out when we premier in January on Disney XD
Talking of Disney, the Wizards of Waverly Place movie prems in August, It was a challenge to shoot as I had a parrot on my shoulder the ENTIRE film! But she (parrot) was very affectionate and we had fun together! They say never work with kids or animals but this shoot proved that wrong! The WWP cast were lovely to work with and we all had fun off camera too. It was shot entirely on location in Puerto Rico, which, with the exception of the over 50 spider and mosquito bites I endured, was a beautiful location!
Well, wig is on, make-ups done, time to change and go shoot! We are starting with a scene where we rock the bands new song PRETTY BITTER, a break up song that takes no prisoners!
